Final Film Opening

Q1 Evaluation - Conventions

This is a prezi which explains how our product develops, challenges or conforms to our to our genre:

Conventions:

|This is some research into different conventions of indie films. We also watched some similar films and looked at the types of things they included. Then we compared research with watching films and compared the six main conventions.

Narrative:

The picture is from 'The Double' which we based a lot of out film opening on as it involves split personalities and the cloning effect. There is also an explanation of the Torodov's Narrative Theory and in-depth explanation of our 'equilibrium'.

This is the Torodov's Narrative Theory using The Double and our film Parallel. This shows the similarities between the 2 films and also gives a good idea where our film could go after the opening sequence.

This is applying Levi-Strauss's Binary Opposition Narrative Theory and Barthes Enigma Code Narrative Theory to our media project.

Characters:

Zac:
Zac is a teenager who has the mind and personality of a young adult and suffers heavily from mental illness. However, the way he is introduced at the beginning of the film, reading a book with a very neat suit on, the audience wont expect him to have mental issues. This conforms to the indie film genre as the main protagonist is not usually predictable. This is similar to the film Shallow Grave as it is tricky to figure out how the characters are going to act.

Zabel:
Zabel is more like the stereotypical character of his age as alter-ego's are rarely portrayed as helpful or even angelic like. This challenges the genre, the characters are not supposed to be stereotypical.

This is applying our characters to the Vladamir Propp Character Theory. As we only made the opening to our movie, many characters were not yet introduced, so we were unable to apply the rest of the characters into the theory.
