Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Because we had less experience with our preliminary exercise, there were some things that we struggled with for example the acting, as you can see above was very poor. This made our prelim look quite unrealistic and very amateur. Also we didn't get many interesting camera angles for example close ups, panning shots, tilting shots. The dialogue in our prelim was very quiet because the camera wasn't very close to us therefore there was a lot of interruption with wind and background noise.
Although, the editing and the music went quite well. I felt the western music matched the stand off quite well as you would associate stand offs with western films. Also it gave the prelim a bit of a comedy element which is helpful for the entertainment factor of the prelim.
0:05 - 0:23 - Long panning shot
0:40 - 0:48 - 180 shot filmed incorrectly
0:55 - 1:06 - Missing film
My 2 minute film opening (Parallel) demonstrates a progression in the standards of filming from my preliminary short film. There are professional looking titles in Parallel which did interesting things such as being pushed away by cars in intricately lining themselves up with benches which was missing completely in my prelim. The camera work in Parallel was much more professional and complicated as we added in camera techniques such as 180 shots, high shots, mid shots, low shots, panning shots, tilting shots etc. we only used a couple of interesting camera shots in the prelim. The editing was much more complex than the editing on the prelim as we used techniques such as cloning, cutting, audio gain etc. whether as in the prelim we only really used cutting. The music choices in Parallel were much less dramatic than the music choices in the prelim, which suites the idea of the film being an independent film.
Overall I feel I have learnt a lot about the film industry, how they advertise films, make films, distribute films,
